Liverpool weather: mixed forecast of sun and rain over Bank Holiday weekend

It is set to be a mixed weather picture for the Bank Holiday weekend across the region, with highs of 17C expected but rain still forecast.

With high pressure being over the country in the last week, Merseyside has experienced some fine dry weather and sunny spells. However a new low-pressure system is moving in from the south on Saturday and it will introduce cloud and outbreaks of rain.

Today, on Friday, April 29, there will be a bright start to the morning that is set to carry on throughout the day. The Met Office predicts it should stay dry and temperatures will hit 17C.

Any cloud will clear away during the night with temperatures of 1C expected. Cloud will thicken however on Saturday and outbreaks of rain will start in the north and west late morning onwards.

Despite rain coming into the forecast, the weather will remain warm, with the mercury still hitting 17C. On Sunday and into Bank Holiday Monday, clouds and patchy rain will remain.

It may brighten up throughout the days, but further showers are likely. Overall, a mixed of springtime weather should be expected.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist David Oliver said: "It is a different mix of weather this bank holiday weekend after what has been a largely settled week for the UK. The high-pressure that has been dominating the UK in recent days will move away to the south, allowing a low-pressure system to move in from the northwest.

"This will bring with it some more unsettled weather with showers or some longer spells of rain across the north on Saturday and then southern areas on Sunday. A good deal of dry weather is expected on Monday with most areas only seeing some isolated showers and mild temperatures, widely in the mid-teens."
