Liverpool weather: Met Office updates 'danger to life' warning as Storm Eunice hits

The Met Office has updated its "danger to life" weather warning for Merseyside.

A yellow alert had been issued across the region on Friday, February 18, as Storm Eunice is set to batter the UK.

However, the forecasting agency has upgraded this to an amber warning as "extremely strong winds" may cause "significant disruption".

The warning was set to begin at 3am tomorrow, but the forecasters have delayed this by two hours so the alert is in force from 5am until 9pm.

The Met Office said: "There is a good chance that flying debris could result in a danger to life.

"Damage to buildings and homes is likely, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down.

"Roads, bridges and railway lines are likely to close, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights.

"There is a good chance that power cuts, possibly prolonged, could occur , perhaps affecting other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

"Large waves are likely and beach material is likely to be thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties, and flooding of some coastal properties seems likely.

"It is likely there will be falling branches and some uprooted trees."

The weather experts have issued a gloomy outlook for tomorrow in its full forecast for the North West as snow is expected to arrive in the region

It said: "Storm Eunice will bring very strong winds on Friday with rain and snow. Snow showers may fall to increasingly lower levels later in the day as the storm clears. Maximum temperature 8 °C."
