It continued: "There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.

"Where damaging winds occur, there is a chance that long interruptions to power supplies and other services may occur.

"There is a small chance that roads, bridges and railway lines could close, with long delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights."

The Met Office has also issued an amber warning across large parts of the North of England for Wednesday and Thursday as Storm Dudley hits the UK.

The amber alert is not in force across Merseyside, but a yellow weather warning has been extended to parts of the region from 3pm on Wednesday, February 16.

The wind warning is in effect until 6pm on Thursday, February 17 and impacts areas such as Kirkby and Ormskirk.
