Liverpool vs Tottenham LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and reaction as Reds cruise to title

Liverpool vs Tottenham in the Premier League - (Peter Byrne/PA Wire)

Liverpool vs Tottenham LIVE!

Liverpool roared back from a goal behind to thrash Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 and wrap up the Premier League title in style on a momentous day at Anfield on Sunday. Needing only a point to ensure a record-equalling 20th English title with four games remaining, Liverpool were rocked in the 12th minute as Dominic Solanke headed Tottenham in front.

But the title party was only temporarily silenced as Liverpool struck back with a Luis Diaz tap-in, an Alexis Mac Allister thunderbolt and a Cody Gakpo shot before halftime. A one-sided second half saw Mohamed Salah end a six-match scoring drought by firing a low shot past Guglielmo Vicario in the 63rd minute -- celebrating his 28th league goal of an outstanding season by snapping a selfie with a fan.

Tottenham's Destiny Udogie then bundled in an own goal to complete a miserable afternoon for the visitors who have lost 19 Premier League games this season. Liverpool, who have now matched Manchester United's English titles record, have 82 points from 34 games played with Arsenal a distant second on 67.

It was a rough 45 minutes for Archie Gray on only his second start in midfield at this level. The teenager was caught napping for Liverpool's first goal and should have been stronger for their second.

Bergvall will now drop to No6, with Sarr and Kulusevski ahead of him.

Liverpool 3-1 Tottenham

17:11 , Alex Young

40min: It’s wave after wave. Alexander-Arnold fires at goal, but Davies heads clear.

Dan Kilpatrick at Anfield

I could bang on about Spurs' inability to deal with set pieces but credit to Gakpo. He did really well to make a yard and find the corner.

NO GOAL!

16min: Diaz has the ball in the back of the net, but it’s disallowed for offside.

Dan Kilpatrick at Anfield

16:46 , Alex Young

It was a cracking header from Solanke against his former club and not entirely undeserved for a Spurs side who have started the game with surprising confidence.

If they can hold on to this lead for a while, the party atmosphere may turn to nerves at Anfield.

Arne Slot to Sky Sports

What is required is they have to work really hard.

"Tottenham is a team that runs a lot. If you're not intense and not ready for them they can hurt you a lot.

"Fans can play a big part in this. The louder they are the more energy the players will have."

Boyhood Liverpool fan Ange Postecoglou is over his 'boyhood crushes'

15:00 , Alex Young

Ange Postecoglou was a Liverpool fan as a boy but says he wants Tottenham to give a good account of themselves on Sunday, even if their primary focus is elsewhere.

"I'm an almost 60-year-old adult, I've gone past my boyhood crushes, so it's got no, [that will have] no impact whatsoever," he said, when asked about his previous affection for Liverpool.

"I have great admiration for the football club, yes, I supported it when I was younger, but that was 50-odd years ago, so we've well and truly moved on since then.

"You want to go there and compete against, obviously, a very good side, and compete well and it’s not just about getting through unscathed, you want to get through having played well against the top team.

"And I think, irrespective of what's on the horizon, that's the primary importance. We are well aware our league form and league position is not good enough.

"But we also know there is an unbelievable opportunity on the horizon. I think irrespective of, this club has had many seasons and a lot of clubs have had seasons where they have done outstandingly well in the league but don’t have the opportunity we have right now of being in the final four of a major European competition.

"That is where the focus is and where the focus should be irrespective, especially of a club that hasn’t had a lot of success recently. We have got a wonderful opportunity.

"The players have and the club has and collectively if we give ourselves every opportunity to progress to a final then I think hopefully the momentum we gain from that will give us a chance to do something special."

Arne Slot won't be celebrating just yet

14:48 , Alex Young

Liverpool won the league in the 2019/20 season but had their celebrations limited by Covid, and so this is set to be a very different experience.

Anything other than a defeat against Spurs would seal the title with four games to spare, but Arne Slot has insisted the celebrations cannot start just yet.

“It's a big responsibility because we are aware of the fact last time this club won the league it was Covid times,” Slot said.

“Everybody is looking forward to Sunday but there's still a job to be done which is one point, that's what we know and hopefully our fans know as well.”

Liverpool vs Tottenham prediction

14:28 , Alex Young

A party atmosphere is expected at Anfield now that the Premier League title is within reach. Roared on by their home supporters and facing a team with one eye on a European fixture next week, the conditions couldn’t be better for Liverpool.

Expect Tottenham to lose a third straight league game as the Reds are crowned champions of England for a 20th time.

Liverpool to win 4-1

Early Tottenham team news

14:20 , Alex Young

Ange Postecoglou faces some big decisions over his Tottenham today.

Spurs have the first leg of their Europa League semi-final first leg against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday and Postecoglou faces a difficult balancing act.

Postecoglou is likely to continue to rotate his squad but some first-team players will need minutes after sitting out against Nottingham Forest on Monday night.

Lucas Bergvall, James Maddison, Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson, all of whom are likely to start for Spurs against the Norwegian side, could feature at Anfield, with Liverpool needing a point to wrap up the league title.

Postecoglou could nonetheless make wholesale changes to his backline between the games, with key centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven likely to be kept on ice.

Archie Gray could come in at right-back, giving Pedro Porro a rest, while there is little to choose between left-backs Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie.

Heung-min Son is sidelined with a foot injury but trained outdoors on Friday, and is touch-and-go to face Bodo.

If he is not fit, Mathys Tel could start in the South Korean's place again, while Wilson Odobert, Richarlison and Mikey Moore are among Postecoglou's options from the left against Liverpool.

Radu Dragusin (knee) remains sidelined long-term but Kevin Danso is pushing for his first start since suffering a hamstring injury in March.

14:12 , Alex Young

Trent Alexander-Arnold could make his first start in more than six weeks today.

Alexander-Arnold scored the winner off the bench on his return from injury at Leicester last weekend and is pushing to replace Conor Bradley at right-back against Tottenham.

Elsewhere, the key decisions for Arne Slot come in attack, where Mohamed Salah will start on the right but the other two spots are up for grabs.

Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz are the favourites to keep their places in the team, but Diogo Jota is an option to lead the line if Slot does decide to tweak his forward line.

Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones are likely to have to settle for places on the bench again.

Slot has close to a fully-fit squad to choose from, with Joe Gomez the only player unavailable.
