Arne Slot has claimed that he does not look up to Pep Guardiola ahead of Liverpool vs Manchester City in the Premier League.
Arne Slot Does Not ‘Look Up’ To Pep Guardiola Ahead Of Liverpool vs Manchester City
The Liverpool manager has spoke about the upcoming clash, which has proven to be one of the biggest matches in the Premier League over recent years.
During his press conference, Slot also reacted to City’s recent form after the Premier League champions ended their five game losing streak with a 3-3 draw with Feyenoord.
Despite ending their run of five straight defeats the result was far from positive, as the Cityzens conceded three goals in the final 10 minutes to let a three goal lead slip.
Slot, the former manager at Feyenoord, spoke on the result, saying: “I got in touch but not in a tactical way. I just contacted people I worked with to say ‘what an amazing result and congratulations with the unbelievable performance’ and those kinds of things.”
Slot also commented on City’s poor form and how he does not look up to the Manchester City manager.
The Liverpool boss said: “I don’t look up to Pep – that’s not the words I would want to use. I think the reason for this is that Liverpool have always had great teams as well.
“So it’s a combination of the fans and the players. If you only had good fans and terrible players it is difficult to win any game. But if you have very good players and the fans are all behind you, this always gives you something extra.”
The Reds can extend their lead over Manchester City to 11 points and their overall lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points.
Guardiola has only picked up one victory at Anfield and Manchester City have won just three times at Anfield since 1956.
The Liverpool managed highlighted Manchester City’s struggles at Anfield but believes it will not play a huge role in Sunday’s clash.
He said: “What is even stranger than that is that the only time Liverpool have won the league in the last 30 years was when there were no fans!
“I think another statistic is that from the last nine or 10 games we have played against City, we have only won once.
“The last eight times we played Real Madrid we had never won – until the other night when we won.So for me, data and statistics like that don’t mean a lot with this game.”
Liverpool are favourites going into the match on UK betting sites, with Manchester City being underdogs for the first time this season.
