Virgil van Dijk has dropped the biggest hint yet that he is ready to sign a new Liverpool contract.

The club captain's current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and both parties have been locked in discussions over an extension.

Following Sunday's shock loss at Fulham, which slightly dented Liverpool's Premier League title chances, Van Dijk has told fans of his love for the club amid "progress" over contract talks.

Van Dijk said: “There is progress, yeah. I don’t know, we’ll see. Listen, these are internal discussions and we’ll see.

“I love the club, I love the fans and they were there for us again and we wanted to reward them at Fulham. But want I them to be there against West Ham on Sunday again and make the stadium an amazing venue like always for us.”

It is the biggest indication yet that Van Dijk will extend his stay at Anfield. The 34-year-old is reportedly looking for a two-year deal.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, the Reds are also deep in talks with Mohamed Salah over a new deal.
