Bournemouth 3-0 Nottm Forest

“My native Illinois friends have been bugging me to watch the 3pm games in the pub rather than pacing around my house,” writes Martin Widdicks. “Finally agreed today, so am sat in a pub in central Illinois with my garibaldi red shirt watching Forest get torn apart in this second half. Won’t make this mistake again.

“Bournemouth are some team though. That 10-minute period was terrifying. Similar to what Newcastle did to Forest earlier in the season.”

GOAL! Leipzig 2-2 Leverkusen (Tapsoba og 86) A big moment in the Bundesliga title race – as things stand Bayern will be six points clear. The under-pressure Edmund Tapsoba headed a free-kick into his own net to bring Leipzig, who were 2-0 down, level at 2-2.

Updated

Wolves 0-0 Arsenal I’ve now seen the red card, which looks extremely harsh on first viewing. That said, apparently there is a still image that shows Lewis-Skelly’s studs going into Doherty’s ankle.

Thoughts and prayers with those who have to interview Mikel Arteta after the game.

Updated

GOAL! Atletico 0-1 Villarreal (Moreno 29 pen) Gerard Moreno’s penalty has put Villarreal ahead in Madrid.

Championship A feelgood first half at the Hawthorns, where West Brom are 4-0 up against Portsmouth in Tony Mowbray’s first home game since returning to the club.

Wolves 0-0 Arsenal VAR have not recommended a review of the red card, so Arsenal are down to 10 men. It sounds like Lewis-Skelly tried to stop a Wolves break with a cynical foul but went in with his studs up and too much force, hence a red card for dangerous play. I literally have not seen the incident.

GOAL! Liverpool 3-0 Ipswich (Gakpo 44)

Szoboszlai’s shot is saved and Cody Gakpo follows up to score.

It’s Saturday, it’s 3pm, it’s Clockwatch o’clock.

Half time: Como 1-0 Atalanta I’ve just seen Nico Paz’s goal and it was a beauty, a ferocious rising drive from just inside the area that gave Marco Carnesecchi no chance. He looks a serious prospect.

“Unlike Niall Mullen, I have no scars from that Coventry game in 1997,” says Matt Dony. “It came smack bang in the middle of my taking-myself-too-seriously, going-to-be-the-next-Billy-Corgan*, no-time-for-football idiot teens. The foreboding dread of meeting underdogs has crept in nonetheless.

“I remember my United-supporting friends in Fergie’s pomp always being completely confident that they work win every game. Even at the highest points in these last few years (and there have certainly been some highs), I’ve never felt that. However well Liverpool have played, I always expect the next game to go wrong. And I can’t possibly be alone.”

* I did not turn out to be the next Billy Corgan, and I think, on balance, that’s probably a good thing.

GOAL! RB Leipzig 0-1 Leverkusen (Schick 19) The champions Leverkusen, who trail Bayern by four points, are also ahead. Florian Wirtz hit the post after a mesmerising run but the ball rebounded kindly for Patrick Schick to roof a first-time shot.

Updated

GOAL! Freiburg 0-1 Bayern (Kane 15) Harry Kane gives Bayern the lead with 728th goal of the season. It was expertly done as usual, a smart turn and a fierce low shot across the keeper.

“Arsenal fans will be pleased that Saliba is back, and also pleasantly surprised that Myles Lewis-Skelly has been preferred to Tierney, Calafiori, Zinchenko and Kiwior,” writes Charles Antaki. “Overtaking four senior candidates for your position is pretty good going, and there’s a good deal of purring over his performances as a Hale End product.

“Fate being what it is, he might of course fall down the abyss of ex-promising young footballers, like so many before him. But he’s there to be cherished and boosted-up in the here and now. Good luck to him.”

Yes but who the eff is he?

“I’m sure Ipswich are huge underdogs today but, as a long time plastic Liverpool fan, I am forever primed for the lesser fancied teams to come to Anfield and derail a title challenge,” says Niall Mullen. “Some people never got over Vietnam or the night their band opened for Nirvana. Dion Dublin never scored a more important goal for Manchester United.
