A Liverpool university launched a new scholarship for three post-grad students fleeing conflict and persecution.
The University of Liverpool's fully-funded "Humanitarian Scholarship" is open to people with refugee status or who are under humanitarian protection outside the UK, and have an offer to study at the university this September. The university's website says: "At the heart of the University of Liverpool's mission is the advancement of learning and the ennoblement of life.
"This includes a commitment to supporting those fleeing conflict and at risk of persecution. As part of this commitment, we are offering a new Humanitarian Scholarship Programme for international students wishing to continue their academic careers at postgraduate level."

An asylum seeker scholarship scheme already offers support to four asylum seekers, or people granted humanitarian protection in the UK, who have an offer to study at the University of Liverpool. This covers the cost of tuition fees and comes with a bursary of at least £4,000 to pay for study costs like "equipment, books, travel and accommodation".
Last year, the university gave a full scholarship to Mustafa Rezazadah, who fled Afghanistan fearing for his life amid the Taliban takeover. The former project manager, who worked with women and artists at Afghanistan's leading commercial TV station, had previously deferred an offer for a masters at the University of Liverpool's communications and media department.
In a statement announcing the extension of such support to refugees abroad "who cannot access education where they are", a spokesperson said: "The University of Liverpool has a long and proud history of supporting people fleeing conflict, from providing sanctuary to the Polish School of Architecture from 1941-5, to hosting academics today through its support to Council of Academics at Risk (Cara). This scholarship continues that commitment."
Dr Gemma Bird, a Liverpool University politics lecturer who researches refugees, tweeted: "I am so proud and happy to see this humanitarian scholarship up and running at @LivUni. If you have refugee status or humanitarian protection outside of the UK and you are interested in studying for a masters degree in Liverpool do have a look."
