Fabio Carvalho has been tipped to follow in Harvey Elliott's footsteps and make a seamless transition into the Liverpool first team.
Fulham forward Carvalho came close to a transfer deadline day switch to Anfield last month.
A deal had been agreed between Jurgen Klopp's side and the Cottagers and as the clock ticked towards the 11pm deadline negotiations were rushed through to try and get the relevant paperwork and Carvalho's medical done.
Sadly for Liverpool, the deal fell through as EFL clubs are not allowed to file 'deal sheets' - something Premier League clubs are able to take advantage of.
Carvalho's contract at Craven Cottage expires at the end of this season and many expect the Reds to return for the Portuguese in the summer.
Will Carvalho end up at Anfield? Let us know in the comments
However, as Carvalho is under the age of 24, Premier League rules state that Liverpool would be required to pay compensation to the Cottagers if they sign him at the end of his contract.
Regardless of the numbers involved, former Liverpool goalkeeper David James feels Carvalho would be another fine addition to an impressive roster at Klopp's disposal.
He also pointed to the fine form of Elliott, who also made the move from Fulham to Anfield earlier in his career.
Elliott, still only 18, arrived on Merseyside in 2019 with the Reds having to pay a record tribunal fee to his former club.
He has since gone on to become a member of the first team, and recently made his return from a serious ankle injury.
When quizzed on whether he could see Carvalho with Liverpool next season, James said: "Yes, definitely.
"I think it’s public knowledge that Fulham allowed him to leave on deadline day at around 7pm and, due to the transfer system the EFL have, Liverpool didn’t have the time to get the deal over the line.
"I don’t see any reason why he won’t be at Liverpool next season. Carvalho’s a young, prodigious talent and would suit the conveyor belt of young talent currently there.
"Liverpool already have Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones on their books. Harvey Elliott…wow.
"At the start of the season you’d watch him play and think how many years has he been at the club because he fitted in straight away.
“You’ve got the recruitment team bringing in the right players and their coaching staff getting them match-ready.
"I know that sounds a little bit obvious, but you can have match fit players and then players who can fit straight into the team.
"Those Liverpool players all seem to seamlessly fit in at the moment."
James, who spent seven years at Liverpool between 1992 and 1999, believes everything at his old club bodes well for many more years of competing for the biggest honours.
Speaking to GGRecon, James added: "Everything at the club is in good shape. The league is still on for them and they’re still in all domestic competitions.
"They could even win the quadruple which would be unprecedented. Everything is really alive at Liverpool.”
