Liverpool transfer roundup: Frenkie de Jong 'offer made' amid Roberto Firmino swap claim

Liverpool continue to be strongly linked with a move for a midfielder before the month is over following their recent injury crisis, although developments involving a number of players have seen the tide change yet again.

The Reds have been strongly linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Leandro Paredes as a potential addition in midfield, although reports suggest that their hopes of signing him could now be fading. However, it has been mentioned elsewhere that a £60million bid has been placed for out-of-favour Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer stories coming out of Anfield…

£60m 'offer made' for De Jong

The Netherlands international has grabbed all the headlines this summer after months of negotiations between Barcelona and Manchester United over a potential sale and, despite the two clubs supposedly agreeing on a fee, the 25-year-old refused a move to Old Trafford.

United have now ended their pursuit of De Jong but it may very well have paved the way for their north west rivals to land a killer blow and capture the midfield misfit themselves, with Spanish outlet Futbol Total confirming that an offer of £53m plus £7m in variables has been made by the Reds.

The report claims that De Jong could ease the concerns of Jurgen Klopp, who wants to add a midfielder to his ranks before the end of the window, while Liverpool ’s ability to offer Champions League football and a realistic chance of silverware makes them an attractive prospect.

Paredes 'set for Juventus'

PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes is a name that has cropped up in recent times with regards to a transfer to Liverpool, although any chance of signing the Argentine may already be all but over following the news that he has agreed personal terms with Juventus.

That’s according to a report from Gianluca di Marzio, claiming that Paredes is very close to joining the Serie A giants as he goes in search of regular first-team football, with the Old Lady appearing eager to sign him.

It has proved to be a quick turnaround of events following reports earlier this week that claimed Liverpool were showing an interest, but they may once again be beaten to the signing of one of their reported targets.

Firmino ‘swap-deal’

In another story relating to Liverpool’s supposed interest in signing Paredes from PSG, it has also been reported that the Reds offered Roberto Firmino in a ‘swap-deal’ to complete the transfer, which may reveal that there was genuine interest from the Merseyside outfit.

Italian outlet CMW claimed that Liverpool had offered a straight-swap move to PSG involving the Brazilian forward, which is the reason behind Juventus springing into action and getting a quick deal over the line within a matter of ‘hours’.

Liverpool manager Klopp had already laughed off any talk of Firmino departing this summer, following previous rumours that he was also in a swap deal to Juventus for Adrien Rabiot, but it appears that the Reds may be open to letting him go in order to secure a new midfielder.
