After failing to qualify for the Champions League, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is set to oversee something of a rebuild this summer.
James Milner, Naby Keita, Roberto Firmino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all departed on free transfers, while World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister has been signed from Brighton. Liverpool are expected to make a number of other new additions as well, with Klopp and newly appointed sporting director Jorg Schmadtke leading discussions.
Liverpool may have a more limited budget compared to some of their more free-spending rivals, but they could soon be getting an investment boost. Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news from Anfield.
Gravenberch blow
Liverpool have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Ryan Gravenberch, with the midfielder insisting his "goal is still to succeed at Bayern" despite being linked with a move to Anfield.
The 21-year-old, who joined Bayern from Ajax last summer, told Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad : “I am assuming that I will still be at Bayern next season. That is how I am really in it.
"I am at a top three club in the world. I think that's beautiful and special. I am not giving up just like that. My goal is still to succeed at Bayern."
Liverpool's transfer error
Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James believes they have made a huge error by not making a move for Mateo Kovacic, who has swapped Chelsea for Manchester City.
Speaking to King Casino Bonus, James said : "Someone who plays like Mateo Kovacic does, I would have thought would be more suited to Liverpool than Manchester City. I’ve been buzzing off this guy for a few years now; the way he picks the ball up and goes through lines with ease, it looks like he is always at 100mph. There is something magical about the way he plays.
"There is a lot of speed, energy and pace in the way Liverpool have played ever since Jurgen Klopp took over and someone like Kovacic would be ideal for that. The way that Man City play is typically a lot slower and less reliant on running with the ball, just look at Kevin de Bruyne’s passing stats.
"Pep Guardiola might be thinking of having a tactical re-think again, Kovacic isn’t the type of player I thought Man City would be going after. Then again, neither was Erling Haaland and that worked out alright! I think if a player like Kovacic went for Liverpool however, I think that would be a great fit."
Klopp's feelings on Mount
With Manchester United's move for Mason Mount stalling after their latest £55m offer was rejected by Chelsea, there have been suggestions Liverpool could swoop for the England star.
Chelsea are said to be holding out for at least £60m and Klopp once branded Mount a "£60m player" after he made his international debut back in 2019 alongside a number of other Chelsea academy graduates. "Tammy Abraham is now a £60million player," L;p[[ said at the time.
" Mason Mount for sure if not more. [Callum] Hudson-Odoi was before that already." Liverpool have already bolstered their midfield with the addition of Mac Allister, but are expected to make more signings given the departures of Keita, Milner and Oxalde-Chamberlain.
