Liverpool transfer round-up: Romeo Lavia stance clarified as swoop complicated by Arsenal

Liverpool's summer transfer activity got off to a strong start with the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister, but more will be expected to happen in the coming weeks as part of an extensive rebuild of the playing squad.

Midfield is expected to receive more reinforcements, with young talent expected to be targeted by Jurgen Klopp and newly arrived sporting director, Jorg Schmadtke. There are other areas of the squad which will also be pinpointed for reinforcements, with a long-term successor to Mo Salah also in their sights.

The Reds have a limited budget to work with in comparison to some of their rivals, but will still be expected to compete given their success under Klopp in recent years. However, the lack of Champions League football may see lesser-known names targeted for a move as the Reds enter a period of transition.

Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news from Anfield:

Lavia contact clarified

Liverpool have joined the race to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, with the 19-year-old also subject to reported interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.

Lavia is attracting attention from across the continent, but with Arsenal vying for Declan Rice, Chelsea attempting to sign Moises Caicedo and Manchester City not currently interested in re-signing the player - the door is ajar. The ECHO report that the Belgian is on Jurgen Klopp's shortlist, although reports that contact has been made is likely premature.

At this point, nothing beyond due diligence has been carried out, although the process could accelerate if the club decide he is the priority target in the position.

Arda Guler latest

Liverpool's reported pursuit of talented Turkish playmaker Arda Guler has been complicated by Arsenal, who have taken the advantage in the race to sign him ahead of Newcastle and Liverpool.

According to Football Insider (via Football365), the talented 18-year-old, whose talents have been compared to Lionel Messi, Arsenal have become the 'most interested English club in the talented left-footed winger. The Fenerbahce man, who can also play in midfield, could provide a long-term successor to Salah on Liverpool's right-wing due to his mesmeric attacking talents.

Wolves defender eyed

Liverpool could stage a late bid to sign Wolves defender Nathan Collins, with Jurgen Klopp believed to be an admirer of the Ireland international, who had looked set to join Brentford.

According to The Irish Sun via BirminghamLive, the 22-year-old is close to joining the Bees for close to £25m. However, Klopp could stage a late bid due to his admiration for the defender.

The defender only signed for the Midlands outfit during last summer's window, but after a promising start to life at Molineux, he fell out of favour under Julen Lopetegui. The Republic of Ireland international - who has shone for his country - has suggested he wants to stay and fight for his place at Wolves, but with FFP issues looming he could be sold for a small profit.
