Liverpool continue to be linked with World Cup star’s Enzo Fernandez and Sofyan Amrabat as the January transfer window draws nearer.
However, the latest reports have revealed developments elsewhere as the Reds aim to get their business done early once more. With their midfield in desperate need of an overhaul, Liverpool are now said to be targeting a raid on one of their Premier League rivals, while an Ajax star has admitted his “dream” move to a top flight club following previous interest from the Reds.
Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer stories coming out of Anfield…
Liverpool want Spurs “animal”
Liverpool are set to battle it out with Real Madrid and Manchester United for the signing of Tottenham and Uruguay midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, according to reports.
Bentancur, described as an “animal'' by Uruguay teammate and former Red Luis Suarez, has impressed since his permanent switch to north London in the last January transfer window, racking up 39 appearances in all competitions while providing five goals and two assists so far this season.
And now the unthinkable could be about to happen for Spurs if Liverpool decide to pounce. According to El Crack Deportivo, the Reds ‘want’ Bentancur and could be prepared to make an offer in January if he proves to be a cheaper alternative than other targets.

Ajax star “dreaming” of transfer
Ajax sensation Mohammed Kudus is said to be “dreaming” of a Premier League move to ‘a club like Liverpool’ as he pushes for a transfer away from the Eredivisie champions.
Kudus has lit up European football this season with 10 goals and two assists in 21 games, which included a strike at Anfield as Ajax suffered a 2-1 defeat to their hosts in the Champions League back in September, while he also found the back of the net twice for Ghana at the World Cup.
However, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano told Caught Offside that the 22-year-old is “dreaming” of a move to the Premier League and it is his ambition to play in the top flight, while also stating that Klopp has already sent scouts to watch the Ajax forward.
Reds suffer Amrabat setback
Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Fiorentina and Morocco midfielder Amrabat in recent weeks but there could now be a huge bump in the road for the Reds in getting a deal over the line.
Amrabat has shone with his performances at the World Cup in which he has helped Morocco reach the semi-finals, but is now the subject of plenty of interest as a result. In response to this, Fiorentina are now said to have a trick up their sleeve to prevent any sale of the player.
According to Tuttosport, via Liverpool Offside, Fiorentina have the option to extend Amrabat’s current deal until 2025. This means he would have two years left next summer rather than just the one, which would bump his asking price up as a result.
