Liverpool transfer round-up: Reds ‘want’ Ajax star as Cody Gakpo speaks out on future

Liverpool could record their most successful season ever within the next two weeks if they acquire the Premier League and UEFA Champions League trophy in order to complete a famous quadruple, and things could get even more exciting off the pitch in the near future.

The Reds have reportedly joined the race to sign Ajax winger Antony this summer, but will have to rival Manchester United for his signature, while another Dutch star who is also on their radar has spoken out on what his future may hold.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer stories coming from Anfield…

Liverpool ‘want to sign’ Ajax sensation

Liverpool are firmly in the race to sign Ajax winger Antony this summer, where Premier League rivals Manchester United and Newcastle United are also very keen to add the Dutchman to their ranks ahead of next season.

According to reports in Spain, via the Liverpool Echo , the Reds have made a ‘concrete approach’ for the highly-rated Brazilian, despite having the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz in their ranks, although the former has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

But Jurgen Klopp’s side supposedly ‘want to sign’ the Ajax trickster and it is believed that Antony’s preferred destination is Liverpool or Manchester United given the stature of the two clubs, with the Amsterdam outfit reportedly seeking a fee between £42million and £52million.

Gakpo speaks out amid Liverpool interest

PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo has been the subject of transfer interest from both Arsenal and Liverpool of late following an impressive season in the Eredivisie and has now confirmed that he will assess his options ahead of this summer.

The winger has scored 21 goals and registered 15 assists in 47 appearances this campaign, but is determined to not make a move that could potentially put his place in the Netherlands’ World Cup squad at risk later this year.

Gakpo told Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, via the Express : "Anything can happen this summer. I will now calmly compare all the options and see what is best for me. Staying another year is also an option. It would be a shame if I went somewhere where I wouldn't get a [game] at all and I could miss the World Cup. I'll keep that in mind."

Reds target ‘agrees personal terms’ with Barcelona

Liverpool were linked with a move for Leeds United winger Raphinha in the January transfer window and it is believed that the Reds did not lose their interest in the Brazilian ahead of this summer, although that ship may now have sailed.

Leeds could still very much be relegated from the Premier League this weekend and it is believed that Raphinha is destined to leave Elland Road whether they stay up or not, and according to Goal.com , he has ‘agreed personal terms’ with Barcelona.

Leeds, however, aren’t interested in negotiating over their star man before the end of the season, but should they suffer relegation back to the Championship, the report claims that there is a bargain £21m release clause in that situation.
