Liverpool's summer transfer window is likely to centre around who they can recruit in midfield.
The Reds failed to add a marquee name in that department 12 months ago and that counted against them as they missed out on the top four and the Champions League. Jurgen Klopp is looking to right those wrongs and has already added Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.
Several Reds stalwarts have left the club leaving holes that need to be filled. Several more new faces are expected to arrive with Klopp's options in the defensive and attacking thirds nicely stocked. A lack of major European football has not yet counted against him with Klopp confident it will not be an issue in the coming months.
Here's the latest transfer news from Merseyside.
Chiesa price tag
Federico Chiesa will be allowed to leave Juventus for €60m (£51m) with Liverpool among those keen, according to Calciomercato.
The Bianconeri endured a poor campaign and could look to have a squad reshuffle with Chiesa among the big name casualties. The Italian has previously excelled, notably at Euro 2020 when his country claimed continental success.
Chiesa has proved to be a versatile option and there are plenty of teams keen on his services, Real Madrid and Chelsea among them. Liverpool are well stocked in the final third but El Nacional claim Klopp "overwhelmingly" has the player in his sights.]
Inter firm on Barella
Liverpool's midfield recruitment drive begun with the capture of Mac Allister and the Reds could now turn to Inter Milan's Nicolo Barella.
The San Siro outfit, who reached the Champions League final, may face a fight to keep hold of their playmaker with several teams keen. Fichajes reports that Inter will want €80m (£68m) for Barella, who would add some creativity to the Liverpool midfield going into next season.
Already the club have waved goodbye to the likes of James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. There are also doubts about Thiago's future beyond next with the Spaniard potentially being allowed to run down his contract at Anfield.
Reds prioritise Kone and Thuram
There are several players on the club's radar and Liverpool are keeping tabs on Celta Vigo's Gabri Veiga who, according to Fabrizio Romano, has not been the subject of any bids.
Instead the Reds are putting moves for Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone. Borussia Monchengladbach expect the Reds to make a bid for Kone whilst Nice's Thuram could also be an option.
Veiga, who is also on the radar of Chelsea, has a £35m release clause in his contract with the Spanish side.
