Liverpool will be expected to do some form of transfer dealings throughout January but perhaps not the one’s people will expect.

Elsewhere, Jurgen Klopp is targeting a Serie A defender, while an admission has been made over rumours linking PSV’s Cody Gakpo to Merseyside.
Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest stories coming out of Anfield…
Liverpool to ‘give up’ on Bellingham
In a shocking report coming out of Spain, Liverpool are now set to ‘give up’ on signing Bellingham next summer after finding a much more affordable alternative in Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez.
It has been reported in recent days that the Reds have already sealed a pre-contract agreement with the Argentina midfielder ahead of next year, with his £77 million release clause ‘considered affordable’ in comparison to Bellingham’s £100m price tag.
That’s according to Marca, who also state that Klopp’s interest in Fernandez ‘opens the door to an immediate operation and a clear path’ for Real Madrid to take control of the situation and sign Bellingham themselves.

Klopp eyes Atalanta youngster
Despite having a plethora of options in defence, the latest reports have claimed that Klopp has set his sights on signing Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini.
The 19-year-old has already accumulated 11 league starts this season, having broken into the first team two years ago. The defender could potentially be seen as a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk, while Joel Matip isn’t getting any younger either.
Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport have now revealed that Liverpool are interested in signing Scalvini, who could be available for around £34m, although any move is likely to have to wait until the summer.
Liverpool not interested in Gakpo
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool are not interested in signing Netherlands international Gakpo in January.
It has been recently claimed that the Reds have been closely monitoring the PSV forward of late, with Luis Diaz’s injury setback meaning that they may consider bringing in another winger to accommodate the Colombian’s absence.
However, speaking on The United Stand’s YouTube channel, Romano confirmed this is not true. He said: “On all the rumours I saw like ‘Liverpool in talks for Gakpo’ – from what I’m told, at the moment, there are no talks between Liverpool and Gakpo.”
