Liverpool transfer round-up: Reds ‘consider’ swap deal as Matheus Nunes ‘waits’ for move

Liverpool’s disappointing 2-2 draw with Fulham on Saturday was made even worse by Thiago picking up an injury, with the Spaniard set to be ruled out for the foreseeable future as Jurgen Klopp’s midfield options weaken further.

As a result, the Reds are now being backed to dip into the transfer market once again this summer and according to the latest reports, are said to be interested in Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic and are ‘considering’ a swap deal for the player. Elsewhere, Sporting Lisbon’s Matheus Nunes has rejected a move to Wolves in favour of ‘waiting’ for the Reds.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer stories coming out of Anfield…

Reds 'consider’ swap deal for Brozovic

Liverpool are now without Thiago, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain heading into their next game and potentially the rest of the month, while Naby Keita remains a doubt, as Jurgen Klopp’s continues to deal with severe injury problems within his squad.

As a result, the German has admitted that they could be forced to dip back into the transfer market this summer, and the latest reports have revealed that the Reds will ‘consider’ a swap deal for Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, where one of Roberto Firmino or Keita could go the other way.

Brozovic only signed a new deal earlier this year and Inter are not willing to sell him, yet the Reds feel that offering a player in exchange, plus cash, may be enough to tempt the Serie A giants to sell, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.

Nunes rejects Wolves to wait for Liverpool

Rumours linking Liverpool with Sporting Lisbon’s Matheus Nunes just won’t go away and the latest reports have revealed that the Portuguese midfielder rejected a big money contract from Wolves recently in favour of waiting for the Reds to make their move this summer.

That’s according to a report from Correio da Manha, via Empire of the Kop, who say that Nunes is holding out for an approach from Liverpool, as he wants to compete for silverware and play in the Champions League, although the Reds remain stubborn on their approach to the situation.

Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and James Milner are Liverpool’s only natural central midfielders who are fully fit as things stand, while youngsters Harvey Elliot and Fabio Carvalho can also play there if necessary, but it may be wise for the Reds to begin thinking about further reinforcements.

Reds defender weighing up exit options

Liverpool have already waved goodbye to Neco Williams and Ben Davies from their defensive ranks this summer, while Rhys Williams has departed on loan, and now fellow youngster Sepp van den Berg could be the next out the door as he attracts attention from clubs in England and Germany.

According to The Athletic, Burnley are keen on bringing him to Turf Moor on loan this summer, but interest from clubs abroad are leading Liverpool and the player to mull over their options and discuss what would be best for the 20-year-old’s development for the rest of this season.

The Dutchman made just four senior appearances for the Reds after joining from PEC Zwolle in 2019, before spending 18-months on loan with Championship outfit Preston North End and totalling 66 appearances in all competitions before returning to Anfield this summer.
