Liverpool transfer round-up: Matheus Nunes decision as Jurgen Klopp completes latest aim

Liverpool had to settle for a draw in their Premier League opener against Fulham last Saturday, so the pressure is on to get a result when Crystal Palace come calling at Anfield on Monday.

There has been growing clamour for the Reds to enter the market in the wake of the two dropped points at Craven Cottage, with a new midfielder the talk of the Anfield faithful. However, the presiding feeling is that there will not be any more arrivals on Merseyside this summer as it has already been a busy window.

The big-money deal to sign Darwin Nunez from Benfica remains Liverpool's main piece of business, and the new boy has received the backing of teammate James Milner. Elsewhere, there are updates on Matheus Nunes and Harvey Elliott in Friday's Liverpool transfer round-up.

Elliott extends

Harvey Elliott outlined his ambition to stay at Liverpool for life after putting pen to paper on a new five-year contract.

Jurgen Klopp has not shied away from putting the 19-year-old in the first-team limelight and the manager will be delighted to have tied down one of his brightest prospects to new terms. A boyhood Liverpool fan, the former Fulham academy starlet told Liverpoolfc.com : "Hopefully my career ends here.

"This is why I've come here, to be honest, just to make sure I establish myself in this team and play as much as I can for Liverpool. That's all I want to do, I just want to put the shirt on, go out and play and just enjoy myself because at the end of the day I was playing in the back garden as a kid in a Liverpool shirt."

"Different" Darwin

James Milner has explained how Darwin Nunez's arrival has given Liverpool a fresh attacking dimension after the £85million Uruguayan scored on his competitive debut against Fulham.

"I think he'll have an impact the whole time he's here, to be honest," Milner told Liverpoolfc.com of Nunez, 23. "Since he's been here, he's [been] impressive on the field, worked hard, makes great runs [and] is desperate to put his head on the ball in the box.

"If you put a ball in there, he'll do everything he can to get on the end of it – good finisher, both feet and he's different to the other boys up there. We've already got some very exciting attacking players who can cause problems, so he's a great addition. He'll be fantastic for us."

Not today, Nunes

Liverpool are not attempting to sign Matheus Nunes from Sporting Lisbon despite a plethora of reports in Portugal claiming the opposite.

Nunes, 23, shone in midfield for Sporting last season and many Liverpool fans would like to see him arrive at Anfield in light of the injuries sustained by Thiago, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones.

However, The Times reports Liverpool are not pursuing a deal for the Portugal international, who is also a target for Wolves and is believed to be protected by a £51million release clause.
