Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from a shock 1-0 defeat to Leicester with a statement win against Chelsea on Sunday to kick off 2022 in style.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool dropped points to end the calendar year meaning that Manchester City are starting to run away with it at the top of the Premier League.
To make matters worse, after Liverpool's clash with Chelsea on January 2, they will be without Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita for the rest of the month as they head off to the Africa Cup of Nations.
With Jurgen Klopp's squad a little light, he may add to his side in January to put Liverpool in the best position to secure another trophy, but they are also looking to the future too, with a busy summer expected also.
Here Mirror Football take a look at the latest transfer news filtering out of Anfield with January just days away...
Zakaria will leave Monchengladbach

Liverpool have been keeping tabs on highly-rated midfielder Denis Zakaria for some time, and the Swiss international is out of contract at Borussia Monchengladbach next summer.
It was likely that Zakaria would not sign a new deal, but that has now been confirmed by the club's sporting director, who has confirmed that the player will be leaving the club.
With Liverpool never replacing Georginio Wijnaldum, and Keita set to be out for a month, Klopp could pursuit a move for Zakaria in January rather than wait until the summer when Zakaria could be signed for free.
German publication SportBILD, as relayed by Sport Witness, claim that Zakaria could be available for just £5.9 million in January.
PSG could snub Madrid, Liverpool

The Kylian Mbappe saga continues, and although it's appeared inevitable that the Frenchman would leave at the end of the season, talks are still ongoing with Paris Saint Germain about a new deal.
Liverpool remained interested despite a world-record attempted bid by Real Madrid in the summer, but Mbappe is still not completely dismissing a new contract at PSG.
Recently Mbappe confirmed that he would not be departing the French giants in January, as he told CNN: "I'm at PSG, I'm really happy. I will finish the season [here], 100 per cent."
And L’Equipe are reporting that discussions between PSG management and Mbappe remain ongoing and haven’t broken down over a new deal for the forward.
Haaland to decide future in February

Another star that looks set to be at the centre of almighty scrap amongst Europe's elite is Erling Haaland, and the Norwegian will decide his future by February at the latest.
German outlet BILD have reported that Dortmund are looking to put together a club-record financial package in order to persuade Haaland to stay, doubling his annual salary to £13.4m-a-year.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for the forward in the past year as the Premier League looks like the next destination for Haaland, but face close competition from their title rivals.
With a January deal out of the picture, club's will learn if they have any chance of signing the star in February, with Haaland's future up in the air.
