Jurgen Klopp has played down suggestions Naby Keita could look to leave Liverpool.

The midfielder has rarely hit the heights expected of him following a big money move from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018 and had been linked with a move away from Anfield.

Keita has entered the final year of his contract on Merseyside and talks over an extension have reportedly stalled.

RB Leipzig, who recently spent big to secure Timo Werner’s return to the club from Chelsea, had been credited with an interest.

Klopp’s midfield options have been the subject of much debate in recent weeks after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago Alcantara and Curtis Jones all picked up injuries, with Jude Bellingham often touted as a target.

The Liverpool boss, however, has played down suggestions the club would look to make a midfield signing this summer and has brushed off talk that Keita is unhappy.

"I have to respond on ‘news’ but if you learn on my side 0.0% is behind the news," said Klopp at a press conference on Friday.

“He was ill, now he is in training and looking really good. Not a player overly happy when he’s not playing, but nor should he be, so it’s completely fine."
