Liverpool transfer news as Sofyan Amrabat 'preferred club' emerges

Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their reported transfer pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the Fiorentina midfielder over the last couple of months. Amrabat starred for Morocco on their way to the semi-final of the World Cup in Qatar.

Those performances for his country have led to increased speculation around the player’s future. As well as Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur have also been previously credited with an interest in the player.

Now, according to a fresh report from France, a different club could be in the running for Amrabat’s signature. It has been claimed by Foot Mercato that Atletico Madrid could make a move for the midfielder.

The report goes further to say that Amrabat himself prefers a move to Atletico as opposed to any other club. It has been claimed that the player feels that a move to the Spanish club “ticks all the boxes” of what he wants from a transfer.

Despite Liverpool supposedly being interested, the article adds that the idea of moving to La Liga is the preference of Amrabat. The report also says that it’s now up to Atletico to enter discussions with Fiorentina to discuss a deal to complete the transfer.

Liverpool have already lost out to a Madrid-based club for a midfield transfer target. Last summer, Aurelien Tchouameni opted to move to Real Madrid rather than move to Anfield.
