Liverpool transfer decision looms as five 'alternatives' to Jude Bellingham offered

Liverpool are in need of a midfield overhaul. While the Reds currently boast 10 senior options, four of them aren’t contracted beyond the end of the season, with Jurgen Klopp’s quota ultimately a mixture of ageing stars, injury-prone players, expiring contracts, and raw youngsters.

Having revamped their attack over the past 12 months, club bosses have long planned to overhaul Liverpool’s midfield in 2023. Whether such surgery is able to get underway in January, however, remains to be seen.

The Reds have already signed one player this month in forward Cody Gakpo, bringing the Dutchman in for an initial £37m from PSV Eindhoven with both Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota currently long-term absentees. However, following confirmation of the deal, Klopp confessed that it could impact on any future Reds business in January and that he didn’t expect to “splash the cash” in this month’s transfer window.

Yet Liverpool seemingly find themselves linked with a new midfielder with each passing day, with the Reds’ current on-field struggles leaving them at real risk of failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Everyone will have their own opinion as to who they think the Reds should sign to strengthen their engine-room, and we want to hear from you.

As part of our new Rank Your Targets initiative we want you to tell us who you think Klopp and FSG should be bringing in this year.

To get involved all you have to do is use our widget to share your opinion on who you think is the answer to the Reds’ midfield woes. Jude Bellingham is on offer, as well as five other names who have been linked. If you don’t agree with any of the options, then suggest someone else in the comments section below!

Jude Bellingham is believed to be Klopp’s first-choice target in midfield, yet Borussia Dortmund have no desire to sell the England international in January. Meanwhile, with the likes of Man City and Real Madrid also interested, he is likely to cost a club-record fee of over £100m. As a result, any pursuit for the 19-year-old looks set to be unsuccessful without the offer of Champions League football.

Of course, he isn’t the only midfielder Liverpool have found themselves linked with, while the they are in need of bringing in more than one player with Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner all out of contract and loanee Arthur Melo set to return to Juventus.

So with a Liverpool midfield overhaul incoming sooner or later, get involved and let us know who you want to see walking through the Anfield doors...
