Liverpool told to sign relegated full-back to keep Trent Alexander-Arnold 'on his toes'

Jose Enrique believes Liverpool should take advantage of Norwich City's relegation and make a move for full-back Max Aarons.

Jurgen Klopp's squad is in need of some reinforcements at right-back to provide competition for Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Neco Williams' future unclear. Canaries defender Aarons has been the subject of speculation linking him with a move away from Carrow Road before, with a host of top European clubs linked to the 22-year-old, including Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Roma, Barcelona, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and even Premier League champions Manchester City.

And now Enrique, who played at left-back for the Reds from 2011-2016, believes now is the time for his former club to throw their hat into the ring.

Speaking to Genting Casino, he said: “Trent will start so we need a younger player to put Trent on his toes. Max Aarons from Norwich would be a good player to have. He’s not the quality of Trent but he’s a bit like [Kostas] Tsimikas with a similar style.”

Enrique, 36, also thinks Liverpool should make a move for Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and Jarrod Bowen at West Ham as Klopp looks to freshen up his squad ahead of another quest for major honours.

A product of Norwich's youth academy, Aarons made 35 appearances for the East Anglian club last season but couldn't prevent them from falling back into the Championship after finishing bottom of the Premier League.
