Liverpool told to sign Man City star after Antonio Conte admission

As the Reds start the day at the top of the Premier League, it's time for your Liverpool FC morning headlines.

'Not laughing now' - Kevin De Bruyne sent Liverpool transfer message after Man City exit Champions League

Former Liverpool forward Stan Collymore has advised Kevin De Bruyne to consider a move to Anfield from Manchester City.

Collymore believes his old club’s history would make winning the top prizes even more special than winning them with City. Collymore’s claims come just days after Pep Guardiola’s side were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid.

City, after taking the lead through Riyad Mahrez, had a final spot snatched away from them in Spain as Rodrygo scored twice in stoppage time to make it 2-1 to Madrid on the night and 5-5 on aggregate to send the tie to extra-time.

Karim Benzema's penalty then won it for the La Liga side to set up a final showdown against Liverpool in Paris at the end of this month. And Collymore believes the Belgium international should be considering his future at the Etihad.

He told the Daily Mirror : “In August 2020, I wrote a column saying Kevin De Bruyne should go to Liverpool and, of course, at the time the comments on it were all, ‘Ha ha ha, why would he want to go there? Well, those who took the time to reply are not laughing now and I can’t help wondering if it has crossed his mind that it might be time for a change. As a player, you know when you walk off the pitch whether or not you have had the impact you wanted to have on a game.

“And after City’s Champions League exit, I’m sure De Bruyne will have been looking around thinking, ‘Are other people as good as I am? Will they help get me to where I need to be? Do I need to go to a club which is a routine winning machine?’ His effectiveness in the biggest one-off games for club and country is actually very poor and maybe it’s time for him to go to a Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich, a club, or more importantly organisation, that has that winning mentality which gets the best out of him. Look, Liverpool might not be able to afford his wages — City have the means to pay a player whatever he wants and my old club, big as they are, don’t.

“And he may well walk out of City one day saying, ‘I’ve won the lot here’, and I’ve no doubt City will ultimately win the Champions League. But the feeling of winning what he has won so far with City will not push him anywhere near the heights he could still get to if he was with one of those other clubs because of their histories."

Antonio Conte makes 'incredible' Liverpool admission after Tottenham draw

Antonio Conte praised his Tottenham Hotspur side for the way in which they handled an “amazing atmosphere” to dent Liverpool’s title charge.

Luis Diaz equalised Son Heung-Min’s opener as the Reds were held to a 1-1 draw by the Londoners at Anfield on Saturday evening. Conte expressed pride in his players for coping with Liverpool ’s “incredible” energy while admitting the outcome was a fair result as his team chase Champions League qualification.

And the Tottenham boss said: “It isn’t simple to play in this moment against this team. Especially at Anfield, an amazing atmosphere with a lot of noise. It’s not simple against Liverpool and to see them play, to run with a lot of energy despite playing every few days, it is incredible. They are deserving everything they are reaching in this season, for sure.

“I need to be proud of my players, to play in this atmosphere, their fans were very excited, it wasn’t easy. But we never lost our composure and calm to face difficult moments. The result was positive, but we need to be a bit disappointed and I’ve seen in the eyes of my players at the end our players are disappointed as we had chances at the end to win the game.”
