Liverpool told to sign Chelsea star N'Golo Kante ahead of huge Thomas Tuchel transfer decision

Liverpool have been told that N’Golo Kante would make the side “better” if he signed for the Reds this summer. It comes as the Frenchman has one-year left on his Chelsea contract.

The lack of time remaining on the deal leaves his future in doubt, with Manchester United reportedly interested in a potential move. It leaves Thomas Tuchel with a huge decision to make over the composition of his midfield going forward, especially as central partner Jorginho also has one-year remaining on his contract.

Discussing the issue over the duo, the German coach said: “Nobody wants that with big players and important players nowadays. It's a wish as a coach that we solve this in the summer in any way, that we solve it and it's clear where the journey is and what the decision is.”

He was full of praise especially for Kante, making some bold comparisons in May: “I think he is our key, key player but key, key players have to be on the pitch and he only plays 40% of games. He is our Mo Salah, [Virgil] van Dijk. He is our Kylian Mbappe.”

Given his importance, it remains to be seen whether his contract will be extended, or if the club will look towards the transfer window for midfield reinforcements. Should he be available to leave, ex-Liverpool player Dean Saunders believes the Reds should sign him this summer.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, he said: “I was looking at players in our league who could make them [Liverpool] better. I think [N’Golo] Kante would make them better. I think Kante could slot into that midfield.

“They are a workman-like midfield. Fabinho, [Jordan] Henderson and Thiago [Alcantara], so I think somebody like Kante.”

It remains to be seen what decisions the Blues make over their squad in the upcoming weeks, however the signings will likely show their plans for the future.
