Liverpool told how they can still sign Moises Caicedo as summer transfer stance emerges

Liverpool have been told why they could still sign Moises Caicedo despite the highly-rated midfielder signing a new contract with Brighton

The Reds were heavily linked with a move for the Ecuador international during the January transfer window but he remained at the Amex Stadium. The likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in Caicedo.

Brighton reportedly demanded a fee in the region of £70m for the 21-year-old in January. Arsenal were the club who reportedly tested the waters during the window. But the Seagulls, who won 4-0 at home to West Ham United today to bolster their push for European football, were resolute in their desire to keep hold of their star player, who did request to leave.

And Caicedo signed a new contract with Brighton earlier in the week, which will keeps him at the club until 2027. However, a fresh report has emerged on his future.

The Telegraph have reported that the new deal will not stop Liverpool showing an interest in signing the Caicedo. The same applies to Man United and Chelsea, although Arsenal are said to be no longer interested in completing a deal. They bought Jorginho from Chelsea after seeing their bids to sign Caicedo turned down and are supposedly leading the chase for West Ham United captain Declan Rice.

And former Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given has explained why he thinks Liverpool will still have a chance to sign Caicedo this summer.

Given told the BBC 5Live Football Daily podcast: “Yeah, but if Liverpool come in tomorrow for a move in the summer and put the money down and say, ‘there’s X amount, we want you’.

“His head will be turned again because he will be on a bigger contract again probably if he goes to one of the Champions League clubs.”
