Liverpool will discover whether or not the city has been shortlisted to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 this Friday.
As part of the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on August 12, the station will make a formal announcement on what cities will be going forward as possible hosts. Liverpool made its bid to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 shortly after it was announced the United Kingdom would act as the host nation last month.
The shift comes after the Eurovision Broadcasting Union deemed Ukraine, last year's winners, as being incapable of hosting given the ongoing conflict in the country. Several Merseyside mayors and MPs have expressed their interest, including Mayor Joanne Anderson.

Mayor Anderson previously said: "We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and would like the opportunity for Liverpool to host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest and in doing so pay tribute to their wonderful country."
Newcastle is the latest city to express interest in hosting duties as they join the likes of London, Manchester, Glasgow and Belfast, making their bid earlier this morning. The BBC said the winner will be picked through a two-stage process against requirements that assess the city’s capacity and capability.
In order to host the event, cities wishing to bid must have a venue able to accommodate 10,000 spectators, a press centre for 1,500 journalists and be served by an international airport. Cities wishing to host must also have hotel accommodation for at least 2,000 delegates, journalists and spectators.
According to BetVictor, the most favoured city to host is Glasgow with odds of 7/4. Behind them are Manchester and Birmingham who share odds of 5/1. Liverpool is currently sixth in the running at 12/1, falling behind Birmingham, London and Belfast.
