Liverpool are reportedly set to battle with Manchester City for a midfielder in the transfer market.
The Reds were linked with a move for a host of potential new midfielders throughout the summer, with none arriving on permanent deals. Liverpool did bring in Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus, who has made just one substitute appearance so far due to suffering a muscle injury.
Borussia Dortmund starlet Jude Bellingham continues to be the main name linked with a move to Anfield in 2023. However, another player has been tipped to be a possible target for Liverpool.

According to Portuguese new outlet Record, Liverpool are expressing an interest in Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez. This is not the first time that the Reds have been linked with the Argentina international, with reports suggesting a move could happen back in the summer.
The report states that Liverpool are ready to battle Man City for the signing of the midfielder in the January transfer window. It has also been claimed that it would take paying the release clause in order for Fernandez to leave Benfica this winter.
Fernandez is reported to have a release clause worth €120million (£105m), after only moving to the Portuguese club at the end of last season from River Plate for £8m. Despite only playing in Europe for a few months, it seems that the 21-year-old is already earning plenty of admirers from some of the continent's biggest clubs.
Manchester United are also being credited with a move for Fernandez. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are “crazy” about the Benfica midfielder, and are looking into competing with the likes of Liverpool for his signature.
