Liverpool starlet 'mentored' by Antoine Griezmann as future plan emerges

Liverpool academy starlet Keyrol Figueroa is being 'mentored' by Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann, according to reports.

The Daily Star claims the 15-year-old, who has made three appearances for the Reds' under-18s this season, receives 'messages of support' from the World Cup winner.

The report goes on to say Griezmann, 30, intends to become an agent once he retires from football and he's been keeping a close eye on the youngster's progress at Liverpool.

The teenager is the son of former Wigan Athletic defender Maynor Figueroa and he's already making a name for himself in the academy.

A source close to the family shared: “Keyrol is amazed whenever Antoine gets in touch. He loves it.

“Antoine has become something of a mentor for the kid - via WhatsApp and with words of encouragement.

“It’s brilliant for him to have one of the game’s greatest strikers in football following his progress. It’s a huge boost.“

Figueroa will hope to follow in the footsteps of some of the club's other academy graduates that have made the step up to the first team in recent years.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones and Tyler Morton will likely be the figures he'll look up to, but it seems he's getting plenty of support elsewhere from some of the game's biggest stars.

The youngster's mother, Sandra Norales, spoke to Honduran newspaper Diario La Prensa back in 2019, when Figueroa was still playing with the U13s and U14s.

She said: "He’s doing well in his matches, last season he scored 90 goals, they put him with the older ones, but he’s learning. That is good for him.

“Maynor [his father] made a great career in England, this helps, but Keyrol has achieved what he is today with his own merits and he has a lot to learn."
