Liverpool star Mohamed Salah sends message to Roma after European glory

Mohamed Salah has sent a warm message of congratulations on social media to his former club after AS Roma won the inaugural Europa Conference League trophy final in Tirana on Wednesday.

Jose Mourinho's side edged out Dutch outfit Feyenoord 1-0 to claim their first ever major European trophy in a tight match.

The triumph was their manager's fifth European club title, making him the first coach to win all the continental competitions currently on offer.

Salah moved from Roma to Liverpool in June 2017 for an initial £37.5milllion deal and has since gone on to achieve global stardom, winning every major trophy possible with the Reds under Jurgen Klopp. The Egyptian enjoyed a successful season in Rome prior to moving to Anfield, helping I Giallrossi to finish second in Serie A, scoring 19 goals in all competitions.

Sharing appreciation for his former club's latest success via Twitter on Thursday morning, Salah tagged in the official Roma account with a red heart and two photos of the current Roma team celebrating with the Europa Conference League trophy. The tweet attracted over 7,000 likes in less than an hour.

Salah scored twice against Roma in Liverpool's emphatic 5-2 Champions League semi-final first leg victory at Anfield in 2019, but did not celebrate either of his goals.

The Reds would eventually lose the final that year 3-1 to this season's opponents Real Madrid with Salah going off in the first half injured, but the Egyptian would seek redemption 12 months later, by scoring the fastest ever goal in a Champions League final from the penalty spot, in a 2-0 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur, that clinched Liverpool's sixth European cup.
