Liverpool star Mohamed Salah faces fight to retain Fans' Footballer of the Year Award

Mohamed Salah faces his strongest competition ever in his bid to complete a hat-trick of Fans' Footballer of the Year awards.

More than 135,000 fans got involved last year, with the Liverpool forward taking an incredible 61% of the vote to retain his title after picking up the inaugural award in 2020.

Salah has again made the final shortlist for 2022 but faces competition not only from the Premier League ’s leading lights but from a women’s European Championship winner in the shape of Beth Mead.

Journalists nominated players from across the top flight - in both the men’s and women’s game - which was then whittled down to a nine-player shortlist.

Salah and Mead are joined on the shortlist by Premier League winner Kevin De Bruyne, Newcastle ’s January signing Bruno Guimaraes and Leicester ’s James Maddison and his England teammate Bukayo Saka. Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Heung-min Son are also in there, with Erling Haaland completing the list after a stunning introduction to English football.

Now, supporters can have their say by selecting their Fans' Footballer of the Year for 2022.

You can vote for your favourite in the widget above, with the winner set to be announced on December 19.

To help inform your choice we have provided a short bio for each of the nine players shortlist.

Time to get voting.
