Liverpool star Fabinho takes cheeky swipe at Richarlison in celebratory Instagram post

Fabinho didn't waste an opportunity to take a cheeky dig at his Brazil team-mate Richarlison following Liverpool's 2-0 victory against Everton on Sunday.

The Reds overcame their Merseyside rivals thanks to second-half goals from Andy Robertson and Divock Origi. The result ensures Liverpool remain just a point behind Premier League title rivals Manchester City, who hammered Watford 5-1 on Saturday.

Everton, meanwhile, find themselves in huge trouble. They're 18th in the table, two points from safety following Burnley's 1-0 win against Wolves at Turf Moor on Sunday. Frank Lampard's side face the very real prospect of playing in the Championship next season.

The Toffees tried everything to disrupt Liverpool's flow on Sunday and their tactics worked for a while, as it remained goalless at the break. Richarlison was particularly influential, drawing numerous fouls to ensure the game kept stopping and starting.

Many Liverpool fans were frustrated by Richarlison, believing he was making the most of challenges. And Fabinho seems to agree with that notion, posting a picture of Richarlison holding his face on Instagram. "What a win!" read the caption. "Until the end, boys!"

Fabinho's upload appears to be just a bit of harmless fun. He plays alongside Richarlison at international level and won't want to cause any tension in the Brazil camp ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later this year. Brazil are among the favourites to lift the trophy.

What did you make of the referee's performance on Sunday? Let us know in the comments below!

Everton manager Lampard was not impressed by referee Stuart Attwell's performance after his team had several penalty appeals turned down. The most contentious was in the second half, when Anthony Gordon went down under Joel Matip's challenge.

"It is a penalty for me," said Lampard. You don’t get them here. If that was Mo Salah at the other end he gets a penalty. I’m not trying to create conflict; it’s just the reality of football. I have played in teams in the top half of the league - you get them."

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, former Everton striker Kevin Campbell said: "This is a pen for me. It’s a push in the back. He’s in the box, it’s a push in the back. He’s nowhere near the ball, he pushes him. You see that.

"If that was at the other end, I’m sure this stadium would have gone crazy. That’s the one break that Everton needed. I thought the referee bottled it a bit, if I'm honest with you."

Jamie Carragher claimed Gordon didn't get a penalty because he was booked for simulation in the first half. "He’s a great lad and a great player, one of the best players on the pitch today, caused Liverpool massive problems," said Carragher. "But he’s just got to be careful of that, it’s not the first time, the one in the first half, and it definitely will be in referee’s heads."

Graeme Souness added: "He’s planted a seed in the referee’s head, in the very first few minutes when he dived to try and get a penalty. You can bet, if we’re players out there, we’re in the referee’s ear: 'He’s a diver, ref.'"
