Liverpool squad vs Man City confirmed ahead of Carabao Cup fixture

Liverpool have taken a strong squad to the Etihad Stadium including Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Thiago Alcantara.

Manchester City return to competitive action on Thursday and there will be no easing back into things as they take on Liverpool for a place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. Both sides haven't played in over five weeks due to the World Cup and both squads have been impacted by the tournament.

The Merseyside outfit are without some key players as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson aren't in the squad after their World Cup exploits while Luis Diaz, Arthur, Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones are all injured. James Milner also hasn't made the short trip.

Jurgen Klopp does have a healthy amount of senior stars available, though. Salah, Joe Gomez, Andy Robertson, Thiago, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Harvey Elliott didn't go to Qatar and all are in the squad for the game. Striker Nunez, Fabinho and captain Jorden Henderson did represent their countries but returned in time to be involved.

Only Ederson due to flight problems and World Cup winner Julian Alvarez are yet to return to City training but it remains to be seen if the English and Portuguese contingent will be involved after only reporting for duty on Wednesday.

Rodri, Aymeric Laporte, Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji returned earlier in the week while Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan played in the friendly victory over Girona.
