Liverpool squad for 2022/23 predicted after £100m summer spend and four transfers

This summer transfer window is expected to be rather busy for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp is continuing to assess his options as he looks to revamp his squad ahead of the new season. Several players are set to arrive at Anfield, as well as some departures.

But how will the squad look when the new campaign gets underway? Here, we take a look at the squad Klopp and co could have to work with for next season...

Goalkeeper

Liverpool already have one of the best and most consistent goalkeepers in world football with Alisson Becker. He is the firmly established number one at Anfield, and that is not going to change.

Caoimhin Kelleher is a more than capable understudy to the Brazilian, having helped win the Carabao Cup last season. However, he has dropped hints that he could look for regular first-team football in the near future.

At this stage it looks like he will still be a Liverpool player for next season. In addition, there are no indications Adrian will leave Anfield.

Defence

This time last year, Liverpool’s defence was in need of extra bodies and recuperation. Since then, though, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez have each fully recovered from their respective long-term injuries.

Factor in the addition of Ibrahima Konate and the emergence of Kostas Tsimikas as a reliable back-up to Andy Robertson, there isn’t much work to be done in this area of the pitch. Klopp will, though, make one slight alteration this summer.

An understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold is being sought, with Neco Williams likely heading for the exit door. As a result, Aberdeen full-back Calvin Ramsay has been identified as a target for the Reds, and a deal could be completed in the near future.

Midfield

This is arguably the trickiest area of the pitch to predict the outcome. There will be several mainstays in the team such as Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara.

Elsewhere, Naby Keita put in many good displays last season, while Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are tipped for bright futures. James Milner has also signed a one-year contract extension.

With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a potential departure, it remains possible Klopp will look to bring in a new midfielder before the window closes. The recruitment team are assessing midfield targets - albeit with a likely focus on the long-term. Let's put a mystery name down as an addition just in case...

Forward

Possibly the busiest area of the pitch in terms of change this summer. Sadio Mane is the notable absentee due to the expectation being that Liverpool agree a deal with Bayern Munich, despite having two bids rejected.

Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz remain from the current group of players. Divock Origi will leave as a free agent, while Takumi Minamino is a target for several clubs including Monaco and Leeds United.

Benfica striker Darwin Nunez is closing in on a move to Liverpool, while the Reds have already secured the signing of Fabio Carvalho from Fulham.

With our four 'predicted' transfers, that would likely take spending past the £100m mark, with future add-ons included. And as a result...

Possible Liverpool first-team squad for 2022/23: Alisson, Kelleher, Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Ramsay, Konate, Van Dijk, Matip, Gomez, Robertson, Tsimikas; Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago, Keita, Jones, Milner, ??? , Elliott; Carvalho, Salah, Diaz, Jota, Firmino, Nunez.
