Liverpool set to rest senior stars for Manchester City trip as Pep Lijnders lauds ‘really dangerous’ Ben Doak

Liverpool assistant boss Pep Lijnders has talked up Ben Doak’s abilities ahead of a number of youngsters being given the chance to shine against Manchester City.

The Scottish winger, 17, grabbed a fine assist off the bench in the Reds’ friendly win over AC Milan ahead of the Carabao Cup tie to earn plaudits from Jurgen Klopp.

On Wednesday, Lijnders told reporters: “He is very quick. If you are very quick and technical, that makes you a really dangerous player. He adapts really quickly to our style.

“We want to give these boys chances."

Liverpool face eight-time Carabao Cup winners City at the Etihad Stadium for their first game back after the World Cup break.

Lijnders suggested that manager Klopp could ring the changes despite the quality of the opposition.

“If the World Cup proved one thing it is that you need your whole squad,” he added.

“When we play League Cup, it is always during a busy schedule. It is a perfect moment to use a full squad. It is a different situation as we've had a long time off. Age is just a number.

“We still believe we need to give our talents chance because we believe in them."
