Liverpool send Neco Williams parting message after Nottingham Forest transfer

Liverpool have sent Neco Williams a farewell message after he completed his move to Nottingham Forest.

Williams has joined Forest for a fee of around £17million. The Wales international has put pen to paper on a four-year contract at the City Ground.

The right-back becomes the Reds' sixth signing of the summer transfer window following the club's promotion to the Premier League. Fulham and Southampton were said to be interested in the 21-year-old but he has now linked up with Steve Cooper's squad at Forest.

Williams has been at Liverpool since under-9 level and went on to progress through the youth ranks to the senior side, making 33 first-team appearances. During that time, he won Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup and Carabao Cup winner's medals. He also won the FA Youth Cup in 2018-19.

The youngster spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham, helping them win automatic promotion back to the top flight. He has also helped Wales qualify for their first World Cup in 64 years.

Announcing Williams' transfer to Forest, Liverpool said in a statement: "The switch to Steve Cooper's newly promoted Premier League side brings an end to Williams' journey with the Reds, which began at U9 level."

The statement goes on to say: "Everybody at Liverpool FC would like to thank Neco for his contributions to the club and wish him the very best of luck for the future."

Meanwhile, Williams said his goodbyes to Liverpool on social media. He wrote: “15 years at this special club, thank you for everything @liverpoolfc it’s been an honour to play for this club and to play under Jurgen Klopp. But I’ve now decided to take up a new challenge.

“I wish all the team and the staff the best of luck for the future and will always continue to support the club. Thank you and never forget YNWA !!!”
