Liverpool: Salah Makes Contract Admission After West Ham Win

Liverpool frontman Mohamed Salah, who delivered another excellent performance against West Ham United, has said he is still far away from extending his contract with his current employers.

Premier League leaders Liverpool picked up a thumping 5-0 victory over West Ham United in their final Premier League match of the year on 29th December. Talisman Salah once again emerged as the star of the show, scoring a goal and providing two assists against the Hammers.

It was the eighth time that the Egyptian had scored and assisted in a single Premier League game. Salah is the first player in the division’s history to do the double in as many matches. With 17 goals and 13 assists to his name in 18 games, the 32-year-old has emerged as both the Premier League’s top scorer and leading assist provider.

Mohamed Salah Not Close to Signing Liverpool Contract

After yet another Man of the Match performance in the Premier League, Salah discussed his contract situation with Sky Sports.

When asked whether there had been a breakthrough in the contract saga, Salah said (via BBC):

No, we are far away from that [contract] and I don’t want to put anything in the media.

The only thing on my mind is I want Liverpool to win the league and I want to be part of that. I will do my best for the team to win the trophy. There are a few other teams catching up with us and we need to stay focused and humble and go again.”

Three of Liverpool’s top players, Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are in the final year of their contracts. This means they can freely negotiate with interested parties when the winter transfer window opens on 1st January.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot, however, does not seem too worried about losing his stars.

I think I have a lot of control over what they do,” Slot said.

If they’re on a training pitch, if they’re in a meeting with me… but talking about the private lives, I don’t have control about them.”

He concluded by adding:

I have control to a certain extent over them, from what I expect from them on the pitch, and I’m really pleased to see what Virgil brings, what Trent brings and what Mo (Salah) brings.”

Salah has played 375 matches since joining the club from AS Roma in the summer of 2017. He has scored 231 times and provided 105 assists in all competitions.
