Liverpool's 'weird' curry sauce preference at the chippy

Liverpool differs from the rest of the country in many ways including what's being ordered at the chippy.

According to a recent survey, the city loves curry sauce and red salt "chip spice" more than any other city in the UK. A study has revealed that Merseyside is the only place which prefers curry sauce with their chippy dinner, over gravy or tomato sauce.

Buzz Bingo ran the study, in celebration of National Fish and Chip day, on June 2, which provided the "weird and wonderful" chip preferences across the country.

In Liverpool, red salt was most popular with people than anywhere else, with one in twenty people choosing the flavouring instead of a sauce. While over a third of people chose curry sauce. A whopping 67% of people in the city do not order scraps.

The survey also found cod was also the top choice for main dishes in Liverpool, with almost half 46% selecting it as their favourite. The city also had the highest percentage of respondents to choose mushy peas as their favourite side, at 60%.

In other parts of the country gravy or tomato was the most ordered sauce, or plain salt and vinegar. Mushy peas reigned supreme as the classic and most popular British side, with just a third selecting it as their favourite.

Bread was the second most popular option at a quarter, and more surprisingly, one in 10 will pick up a pickled egg with their order.
