Liverpool's Luke Chambers on Kilmarnock radar as Derek McInnes admits he'd love him back

Derek McInnes admits he'd love to tempt Luke Chambers back to Kilmarnock – and he's revealed they've asked Liverpool the question.

The left back joined on loan after fellow England youth star Ben Chrisene picked up a season-ending injury.

And although he'd never played senior football, young Chambers took like a duck to water and helped Killie avoid relegation from the Scottish Premiership.

And Rugby Park boss McInnes says he'd love to have him back: “We were really pleased with Ben Chrisene until his injury and then Luke came in. As soon as Ben was out for the season, we got Luke in.

“Luke is one I would really like to work with again. We’ve had conversations with Luke, his family, his agent, Liverpool and everyone agress how good a loan it was.

“It’s whether Liverpool see that as the right thing for him. They are totally in charge of that situation.

“Certainly, if there was an indication or encouragement to do that deal, we would like to bring him back.”

It's understood that any decision on his future would have to wait with the Europa League looming for Liverpool.

And Chambers when asked if he'd be interested in coming back to Ayrshire said: “Yeah, possibly. I’d sit down with the club and have a look, but there is a lot involved in it and it’s hard for me to say.

“What I can say is that I would never say a bad word about Kilmarnock.

“It was absolutely unbelievable and I would 100 per cent tell other people in my situation that, if they got the chance to go and play there, to go and do it.

“The fans, the management, the players and the staff were amazing to work with."

He added: “When I first went to Kilmarnock, the goal was to stay in the league and the way the lads were in the final games was unbelievable.

“The work that was put into it on the training pitch really showed in those last games and I was over the moon.

“This experience has taught me a lot on and off the pitch. How to use my body and headers and the physical side of the game. I learned so much during my time.

“Then off the pitch just really coping with how to live on my own. It was a really unbelievable experience and I couldn’t have asked for it to go any better.

“Looking ahead, it has put me in good stead."
