Liverpool's Andy Robertson makes Man City title admission but Jurgen Klopp disagrees

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson admits the gap to catching Manchester City at the top of the Premier League is 'too big' as the Blues moved 11 points clear this weekend.

City went into the game with Chelsea knowing they could go 13 points clear of Thomas Tuchel's side and effectively knock them out of the title race, which they did thanks to Kevin De Bruyne's sublime finish.

Liverpool were a point behind Chelsea, and leapfrogged them into second with a comfortable win over Brentford on Sunday. They remain 11 points behind the leaders, but crucially have a game in hand, with City figures keen to stress that Jurgen Klopp's outfit are fully capable of catching them still.

However, Robertson, a key part of the Liverpool side that have battled toe-to-toe with City for the title over the past four years, conceded after their Brentford win that the Blues are just looking too good at the moment to allow a potential eight-point lead to slip.

"Man City are a fantastic team - one of the best in Premier League history - we have closed [the gap] a bit, but we have to concentrate on winning games," he said.

"The gap is too big to be looking at for the moment. We are up against one of the best and we will give it a go and try and pick up as many points as possible."

That may be music to the ears of City fans, but manager Klopp offered a different opinion, saying his side still believe they can win a second Premier League title, and pointed to the unpredictability of results in recent years as reason for his defiant optimism.

“We don’t have to convince anybody outside to believe,” he said of Liverpool's title chances. “If they want to believe, they can believe.

“If we would do something like this we wouldn’t do it in public. I think people are with us, they want to enjoy the ride. They are ready to go for it as much as we can.

“This is not the situation to talk about the title race. 11 points, one game in hand. In a normal world, nothing happens anymore [and City win the title] but what is normal nowadays?

“We’ve tried to do our part. We have nothing to do with the rest.”
