Liverpool's 2022/23 Premier League season predicted after confirmed fixtures with glorious results

Liverpool's 2022/23 Premier League fixtures have been confirmed today, with the Reds taking on newly-promoted Fulham in their first game.

The Reds travel to Craven Cottage on on August 6 to take on Marco Silva's side, followed by a home game against Crystal Palace in the following week, with Jurgen Klopp's side facing a trip to Old Trafford on August 20 as they go up against Erik ten Hag's Manchester United.

Klopp's side missed out on the Premier League title by just one point last season, with Manchester City completing an unlikely comeback on the final day to clinch the title. And ahead of the new season, both sides have strengthened their squads, with Liverpool signing forward Darwin Nunez from Benfica, while City have signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool's 2022/23 Premier League fixtures simulated

To complete this simulation, we used Football Manager 2022 and updated the game with the latest teams, transfers, and most importantly, the updated fixtures for the 2022/23 season. Let's see how Liverpool faired in some of their games next season.

Opening game: Fulham 1-3 Liverpool (Saturday, August 6 2022)

Liverpool got their 2022/23 Premier League campaign off to a winning start in this FM22 simulation, despite going behind early on. Tom Cairney's strike gave Fulham the lead but just ten minutes later it was 2-1. Mohamed Salah made it 1-1 before Curtis Jones completed the comeback on 18 minutes. Virgil van Dijk made it 3-1 early in the second half.

First dramatic late winner: Manchester United 0-1 Liverpool (Saturday, August 20, 2022)

Liverpool's trip to Old Trafford in their third game of the campaign produced their first dramatic late moment of the season, with Joel Matip scoring an 85th-minute winner to make it three wins out of three at the start of the season. In what was a fairly even game with chances at both ends, the Reds sealed the win late on.

Darwin Nunez's first goal for Liverpool: Liverpool 1-0 Bournemouth (Saturday, August 27, 2022)

Liverpool 1-0 Bournemouth (Saturday, August 27, 2022) (Football Manager 2022)

New Liverpool signing Nunez grabbed his first Premier League goal of the campaign, and it was an important one too, with the former Benfica man scoring the only goal of the game in the Reds' 1-0 win at home to Bournemouth in their fourth game of the campaign. This goal was the first of Nunez's 18 Premier League goals for Liverpool in this 2022/23 simulation, with only Salah scoring more, who bagged an incredible 27 goals.

Biggest win: Liverpool 6-0 Brentford (Saturday, May 6, 2023)

Liverpool's biggest win of their 2022/23 campaign in this simulation came against Brentford in early May, with Salah scoring a stunning hat-trick. Nunez, Curtis Jones and Luiz Diaz also got on the scoresheet, in a game which also saw Jordan Henderson receive a red card.

Biggest shock: Liverpool 1-2 West Ham United (Wednesday, October 19, 2022)

Liverpool 6-0 Brentford (Saturday, May 6, 2023) (Football Manager 2022)

Liverpool's first defeat of their 2022/23 campaign was at home to David Moyes' West Ham. Midfielder Tomas Soucek scored twice for the away side, including a 67th-minute penalty, and despite Roberto Firmino's goal, Klopp's side were defeated at Anfield.

Derby days: Everton 1-1 Liverpool (Saturday, September 3, 2022) and Liverpool 2-0 Everton (Saturday, February 11, 2023)

Liverpool 6-0 Brentford (Saturday, May 6, 2023) (Football Manager 2022)

Liverpool could only draw 1-1 at Goodison in the first Merseyside derby of the campaign in early September, but goals from Salah and Diogo Jota sealed a 2-0 win for the Reds in the reverse fixture in mid-February.

Title deciders: Liverpool 2-1 Man City (Saturday, October 15, 2022) and Man City 1-1 Liverpool (Saturday, April 1, 2023)

Liverpool 2-1 Man City (Saturday, October 15, 2022) and Man City 1-1 Liverpool (Saturday, April 1, 2023) (Football Manager 2022)

Liverpool remained unbeaten against their nearest title challengers Man City, with the Reds claiming a 2-1 win at Anfield followed by a 1-1 draw at the Etihad. Goals from Salah and Firmino sealed the win in mid-October, with Matip scoring in the 1-1 draw in early April.

So, where did Liverpool finish in this 2022/23 simulation?

Liverpool's win against Manchester City in mid-October proved to be an absolutely superb result, with the Reds claiming the 2022/23 Premier League title ahead of City by just two points. Klopp's side scored more goals and conceded fewer than their title rivals, in what was a superb campaign in which they were only defeated twice.

Overall Football Manager 22 predicts that with Nunez added to the side, Liverpool have the quality to win the 2022/23 Premier League title, with Salah having another superb individual campaign.
