Liverpool 'remain in contact' with Borussia Dortmund over Jude Bellingham '2024 deal'

Liverpool have resumed contact with Borussia Dortmund over signing Jude Bellingham in the summer of 2024, according to a new report.

The 19-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield over the last 18 months. However, that was until Anfield officials, as reported by the ECHO earlier this month, decided to halt their pursuit of the former Birmingham City scholar in favour of taking a more comprehensive approach to their highly anticipated midfield rebuild this summer.

But according to Football Insider, Jurgen Klopp has not given up on landing Bellingham in the summer of 2024 and Liverpool have resumed contact with the Bundesliga table-toppers in the hope of striking a future agreement. The report claims the Reds "remain in contact with the midfielder’s representatives and have made clear that they want to press ahead with a deal in 2024".

Liverpool's exit from the race for the England international's signature was expected to hand Manchester City and Real Madrid the advantage, with reports from Spain on Friday claiming the 14-time European champions have received reassurances that Bellingham will make the move to the Santiago Bernabeu later this summer.

Speaking at his press conference earlier this month, Klopp poured cold water on any lingering hope that Bellingham could become a Liverpool player this summer, admitting sometimes you have to "accept and step aside" when transfers aren't possible.

“I have nothing to say on that,” the Liverpool boss told reporters. “It is not about Jude Bellingham, but I never understand why we talk about things we cannot have, theoretically. We cannot have six players in a summer, everyone for £100m. That is clear. You have to realise what you can do and then work with it. That is your job.

“We are not children. When you ask a five-year-old what they want for Christmas and they say, I don’t know, a Ferrari, you would say that is too expensive and you cannot drive it. If this kid then was really unhappy because he didn’t get a Ferrari, it would be a really sad life.

“You look what you can do, and you work with that. We try everything to get what we need and what we want, but there are moments where we have to accept and step aside.”

The ECHO understands Dortmund have slapped a price tag in the region of £130m on Bellingham as a result of the teenager's dazzling performances at the 2022 World Cup.
