Jurgen Klopp confirms Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold injury blows

Jurgen Klopp delivered a gloomy update on the fitness of Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool’s injury woes deepened further.

Diaz was forced off with a suspected knee problem shortly before half-time of the 3-2 Premier League defeat at Arsenal on Sunday afternoon having been earlier caught by a challenge from Thomas Partey.

And Alexander-Arnold failed to appear for the second half after his right ankle was trod on by Gabriel Martinelli towards the end of the first half.

Diaz left the Emirates on crutches while wearing a protective brace on his left knee with both he and Alexander-Arnold undergoing scans on Monday to ascertain the extent of the damage.

Being on the receiving end of an injury-time rebuke from referee Michael Oliver while sarcastically jeered by Arsenal supporters wasn’t how Jurgen Klopp would have wanted to spend his Anfield anniversary, writes Ian Doyle.

His touchline telling-off, though, was the least of the worries for the Liverpool boss as a troubling season plumbed new depths on the weekend he marked seven years in charge.

A second Premier League defeat of the season – leaving Liverpool with a miserly 10 points from eight games, their worst such start to a campaign in a decade – is problem enough.

But the real concern was the manner of the loss, those watching at home able to tick off the list of increasingly regular failings.
