Liverpool player ratings as Virgil van Dijk and two others good against Nottingham Forest

Alisson Becker 6

Watched some shots go off target before break. Escaped after one miskick second half and an ambitious Forest penalty claim.

Joe Gomez 8

Kept busy by Johnson in early stages but soon began pushing forward and tested Forest goalkeeper Horvath on two occasions. Very decent showing. Booked.

Ibrahima Konate 8

Little bit nervy as Forest began strongly but physicality came to fore longer the game progressed. Enjoyed tussle with Davis and great tackle on Mighten late on.

Virgil van Dijk 8

Saw off Spence in one fierce tussle on the flank first half and stepped in when required. Almost effortless in some of his defending.

Kostas Tsimikas 6

Didn’t get much out of Spence going forward, deliveries inconsistent and tough time defensively. Then curled in right-foot cross to set up the winner.

Fabinho 7

Plenty to do in opening stages as Forest fought fiercely but began to impose himself. Diligent and disciplined. Subbed.

Naby Keita 7

Good pressing and passing put Liverpool on front foot and real appetite with defensive work. Subbed.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 6

Played in Firmino for chance and began to show pace and power as spaces opened up only to fall away in second half. Subbed.

Harvey Elliott 6

Some lively moments on the right of the attack after shrugging off poor challenge by Garner but more peripheral the longer the game progressed. Subbed.

Roberto Firmino 7

Bewildered Forest with his ball control and ability between the lines, but way too clever when denied by Horvath when clear first half. Pressed like a demon second half.

Diogo Jota 7

Thwarted by good tackle from Worrall when inside area first half and too often ball bounced off him. Same story when switching down the centre shortly after the hour – and then scored. Typical Jota.

Jordan Henderson (for Keita 64) 6

Drove Liverpool forward but gaps began to open up a bit for Forest after the switch to 4-4-2.

Luis Diaz (for Oxlade-Chamberlain 64) 6

Not much joy operating down the left flank and never got to grips with pace of game.

Takumi Minamino (for Elliott 64) 6

Worked hard down the right following his introduction.

Thiago Alcantara (for Fabinho 64) 7

Allowed Liverpool to keep the ball a little better as things got hectic in the final quarter.
