Liverpool player ratings as Trent Alexander-Arnold outstanding but five average against Inter Milan

Alisson Becker 7

Clutched one from Dumfries and did well to beat out cheeky Calhanoglu free-kick. No chance with opener and frayed nerves with some risky passing.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 8

Whipped in great delivery for Matip chance, dangerous distribution and couple of vital defensive interventions. Close with one free-kick. Fine showing.

Joel Matip 6

Struck the crossbar with a header and defensively coped well first half but lacked composure second half in difficult conditions and gave ball away in build-up to opener.

Virgil van Dijk 7

No-nonsense defending at times given the iffy weather and a threat at set-pieces, and forced to dig deep as Inter came strong second half.

Andy Robertson 6

Deliveries inconsistent when probing down left and occasional difficult moments going other way. Steady enough second half. Booked.

Fabinho 6

Bypassed a few times too many throughout and became frustrated with succession of questionable fouls given against him.

Thiago Alcantara 7

Like so many players, took a while to get to grips with blustery conditions but began to find passing metronome. Got stuck in, too. Subbed.

Curtis Jones 6

Kept matters simple early on and showed hints of attacking potential before half-time. Good and bad moments after break. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 6

Fully committed to his personal battle up against Bastoni which he just about shaded. Missed sitter when hitting post after break, then unlucky when hitting other post with volley.

Diogo Jota 5

Struggled to get into game before break with ball too often bouncing off him. Marginal improvement later on. Booked and subbed.

Sadio Mane 7

Good engine and occasional moment of promise first quarter, but a little peripheral after that first half. Massive effort second half and almost created goal for Salah. Booked.

*Give us your LFC player ratings:

Jordan Henderson (for Jones 65) 7

Brought some calm and control to the midfield.

Naby Keita (for Thiago 65) 7

Movement and forward thrusts helped tire the 10-man Inter defence.

Luis Diaz (for Jota 83)

Denied goal by brilliant Vidal block.
