Liverpool player ratings as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota too good for Arsenal

Caoimhin Kelleher 7

Produced fine fingertip save to turn early Lacazette free-kick on to crossbar and confident with distribution and handling. Impressive.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 8

Broke into midfield to release Jota for the opener, looked dangerous in possession and defended solidly enough up against Martinelli. Fine crossfield pass released Jota for second.

Joel Matip 6

Horribly wasteful with some of his passing first half. Defensively untroubled, though. Subbed at half-time.

Virgil van Dijk 6

Appeared strangely uncomfortable for periods during the first half and passing not always on point. Improved considerably second half.

Andy Robertson 7

Rash with some of his decisions in the first quarter up against Saka but started to grow into threat going forward. Helped cause Arsenal problems second half and close with one cross-shot.

Fabinho 7

Started poorly but gradually picked up pace and great tackle on Martinelli inside area denied first-half opening. Fine positioning meant Arsenal couldn’t build up any real pressure after break.

Jordan Henderson 6

Spent too much of the early stages struggling to find a position and only began to become influence after the opener. Steady enough after that. Subbed.

Curtis Jones 9

Continually took the game to Arsenal before half-time and the main link between the attack and the rest of the team. Then composed and disciplined as Liverpool looked to see the game out.

*Give us your LFC player ratings:

Kaide Gordon 6

Would have been profited from far better service from his team-mates but stuck to his task, particularly defensively. Fired good chance over second half. Subbed.

Roberto Firmino 6

Difficult to remember much of a worthwhile contribution first half, given little chance in aerial duels. Far more progressive after break. Subbed.

Diogo Jota 8

Nagged away at Tomiyasu with his direct running and fine run ended with an admittedly mishit opener. Created good chance for Gordon second half and took his second brilliantly.

Ibrahima Konate (for Matip 46) 6

Added pace to the defence and hit the post with header from a corner. Booked.

Takumi Minamino (for Gordon 63) 6

Spurned decent opening to continue his fine Carabao Cup goal record. Booked.

James Milner (for Henderson 75) 6

Helped Liverpool see the game out.

Neco Williams (for Firmino 84)

On long enough to be clobbered by Thomas Work Event.
