Liverpool player ratings as Thiago perfect and five others superb against Man United

Alisson Becker 8

Showed Bruno Fernandes a little too much of the ball early on but distribution and speed off the line on point. Double save from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga at key time second half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 8

Locked down Elanga first half and was able to press forward and augment the attack at will. Coped pretty well with Jadon Sancho and Rashford after break.

Joel Matip 8

Dealt with rare United sorties before pushing forward and playing key part in the brilliant second Liverpool goal. Steady as visitors pressed second half.

Virgil van Dijk 7

A couple of issues with Rashford running in behind first half but dominant in the air and good passing.

Andy Robertson 9

Pushed forward when required and helped negate much of the threat down United right. Good interception and run prompted the third before creating the fourth.

Fabinho 9

Superb in stopping United attacks early and making the spiteful Fernandes peripheral, and found time to get forward on occasion. More work second half but didn’t shirk it. Subbed.

Thiago Alcantara 10

Seemed to be on a different level to everyone else in terms of his passing, and United couldn’t handle his speed of thought or tenacity. Faultless. Subbed.

Jordan Henderson 7

Full of energy, picked up a lot of second balls and started much better in possession than in recent outings, but lost way for a little bit after half-time.

Mohamed Salah 9

Alert run saw him get in down the right to set up the opener before a cool finish for the Liverpool second and then notching the fourth. What goal drought?

Sadio Mane 9

All power and pressing, United simply couldn’t handle him. Initiated first goal and the first-time pass to create the second was worth the admission money alone. Then scored the third. Great game.

Luis Diaz 9

Tapped in the opener, played a part in the second and bamboozled United when coming both inside and out, setting up the third. Subbed.

Diogo Jota (for Diaz 70) 7

Almost ran straight through the entire United defence at one stage before setting up Salah's second.

Naby Keita (for Thiago 80)

On to enjoy the party.

James Milner (for Fabinho 86)

You know things are going well when this guy is being introduced late on.
