Liverpool player ratings as Shanice van de Sanden shines against Brighton

Liverpool Women got the three points they so desperately needed after a narrow 2-1 win over struggling Brighton on Sunday afternoon.

With Liverpool hanging just above the relegation fight, the Reds also had to make this a must-win to secure their three points.

Natasha Dowie was back in the fold after being out injured and made a small impact on the game, but it was Leighanne Robe, Ceri Holland and Shanice van de Sanden who came out on top in our player ratings

Rachael Laws - 6

Did well to punch away an early corner under plenty of pressure. Largely a spectator for much of the first half but caught in no-man's land for Elisabeth Terland's effort from distance.

Emma Koivisto - 6

Unable to really influence the game in an attacking sense in the first half but better after the break. Made a vital interception on Danielle Carter as Brighton tried to break.

Leighanne Robe - 8

Made two crucial blocks to deny Veatriki Sarri early on. Has established herself as an integral part of this Liverpool defence.

Jasmine Matthews - 7

Some composed defending under lots of pressure inside her own penalty area. Made some crucial sliding interceptions to prevent Brighton adding to their tally in the first half. A solid display.

Missy Bo Kearns - 7

Nearly set up Dowie with a lovely delivery inside the first 10 minutes. Failed to really impose herself on the game before the break but influence grew in the second half. Tested Lydia Williams with an effort from distance. Subbed.

Fuka Nagano - 7

Got stuck in defensively in the first half but not her usual dynamic self. Much improved after the interval.

Taylor Hinds - 6

Had a tough time up against the pacy Katie Robinson. Did well for spells but guilty of surrendering possession too easily.

Ceri Holland - 8

Showed flashes of quality in the first half but really came into her own in the second. Scored a double to help the Reds come from behind.

Shanice van de Sanden - 8

Liverpool's biggest threat early on and showed her explosive pace down the right flank. Excellent work to set up Holland for the Reds' opener. Looking back to near her best. Subbed.

Katie Stengel - 7

Constantly looked to get Liverpool up the pitch and held up the ball brilliantly. Worked hard but didn't have too many clear cut chances.

Natasha Dowie - 7

A willing runner on her first competitive start since returning to Liverpool in January. Tested Williams twice in the first half.

Rhiannon Roberts - 6

A solid job after her introduction.

Melissa Lawley - 6

Important minutes in the tank.

Sofie Lundgaard

Minutes.
