Liverpool player ratings as Sadio Mane sensational but four others superb at Brighton

Alisson Becker 8

Clutched a few tame efforts first half but happy to see Maupay shot flash wide. Excellent stops from Welbeck and March late on preserved clean sheet.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 7

Whipped in one good ball for Robertson and began to dominate right flank before break. Given sterner defensive test in final quarter by March.

Joel Matip 8

Some vital interceptions as Brighton probed early on and superb ball over the top to create opener. Kept things steady at the back second half.

PLAYER RATINGS: Rate Liverpool's players after the 2-0 win against Brighton

Virgil van Dijk 7

Won an awful lot of headers first half with home side regularly going long and continued to read game so well.

Andy Robertson 8

Great engine down the left flank and worked impressively with Diaz. Wild with one finish, but kept on going after break. Good showing.

Fabinho 6

Bypassed far too easily in the opening quarter and wasn’t able to impose himself fully before break. Slipped under the radar for most part.

Jordan Henderson 7

Began to link well with Salah and Alexander-Arnold once Liverpool got on top. Had one shot saved by Sanchez second half. Subbed.

Naby Keita 7

Got through a lot of work and passing and pressing allowed the Reds to slowly gain the initiative. Shot was handled for the penalty for second goal. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 7

Denied by Sanchez after one lightning counter-attack and after break dragged one shot wide, hit the bar, scored a penalty and then got injured. Subbed.

Sadio Mane 9

Led the line superbly first half with great work-rate and close with one effort at near post. Moved to the right after Salah’s substitution and continued to impress. Really good.

Luis Diaz 8

Work ethic superb in attack and defence and brave to put his head in where it hurt to score opener. Became threat on counter in the second-half.

Diogo Jota (for Salah 64) 6

Not quite at his best with ball control sometimes an issue.

Thiago Alcantara (for Keita 64) 6

Difficult to get up to speed of game with a few too many flicks.

James Milner (for Henderson 86)

Just enough time for one very solid challenge on Cucurella.
