Liverpool player ratings as Sadio Mane great but Fabinho awful against Man City

Alisson Becker 8

Unlucky to concede opener having made great save from Sterling moments earlier and only Liverpool player to reach his level first half. Quiet time after that.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 6

Fine assist for the equaliser and a couple of glimmers going forward, but struggled at times defensively coping with Cancelo and Foden. Part in second goal, too, and stuck at it.

Joel Matip 7

Headed away a few corners but far too panicked with the ball at his feet until Liverpool got a grip second half and his long legs constantly got visitors out of trouble. Unfortunate deflection for the opener.

AS IT HAPPENED: Man City vs Liverpool final score, goals reaction

Virgil van Dijk 6

Didn’t look comfortable up against Sterling early on and some passing put team-mates in trouble. Improved as the game progressed. Booked.

Andy Robertson 6

Ball inside helped lay on first equaliser but plenty of issues going the other way as Liverpool wobbled, but more space opened up later on. Booked.

Fabinho 4

Not the game for the Brazilian to suddenly forget how to run. Bypassed time and again and conceded free-kick that led to opener, and only slightly better after break. Booked.

Thiago Alcantara 6

Looked to move Liverpool forward and easily the best of the midfield trio first half, but lucky to escape with some challenges before being booked. Tired a bit.

Jordan Henderson 5

Anonymous in the opening stages but at least began to make an impact before break with forward passing. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 6

Forced to spend too much time tracking back first half and wasn’t given much space in which to attack. However, great assist for Mane strike sparked better performance.

Diogo Jota 6

Took his goal well and almost pressured Ederson into a mistake but should have squared for Salah before interval. Subbed.

Sadio Mane 8

Some moments of threat early on, not least when played in by Henderson, and took his goal superbly before all-action second-half showing in which he was everywhere. Subbed.

Luis Diaz (for Jota 70) 7

Instantly caused problems with his direct running whenever City were exposed.

Naby Keita (for Henderson 78)

Freshness in midfield.

Roberto Firmino (for Mane 84)

Minutes.
